Hello ABC church family! As we look forward to gathering for worship on Sunday, let me encourage you to be prayerful and ready to worship and to invite others to join us! Here is my text for Sunday and I would encourage you to read it in preparation for worship. I am preaching from Leviticus 1:1-9 and will be talking about “A Worthy Sacrifice.”
I have just finished reading a book by one of my favorite authors, Robert J. Morgan entitled Reclaiming the Lost Art of Biblical Meditation. It’s a book that provides wise counsel and practical insights in how to meditate on Scripture. The bible itself teaches the importance and value of this discipline. Psalm 1:1-3 says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all he does, he prospers.”
To meditate on Scripture means to think about it, ponder it, turn its truths over in our minds again and again. One way Robert Morgan suggests to do this is to pick a verse at the beginning of the week and then to think about it throughout the week. You can write the verse on an index card. You may even want to memorize it. I have begun this practice and found it to be a great help in keeping my life grounded in biblical truth, while also fueling my passion to share His truth with others.
My verse this week comes from Philippians 1:27: “Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ.”
Join me in making biblical meditation no longer a “lost art” but a regular part of your weekly routine. As the psalmist reminds us, those who do so will bear fruit and prosper in all that they do.
For His glory,
Tim
