I recently had a Pastor email me about a homosexual preacher on ‘Tik Tok’ that is teaching that Jesus encounter with a Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7:24-30 reveals that He was a racist and also that He was not sinless.  This is part and parcel of what is going on today in our society as many, some that even claim to be believers, are trying to discredit our Lord and subvert the plain teaching of Scripture in order to forward their own agenda.

The first thing that Christians today (or any other day for that matter) need to do is answer this question:  Does what they proclaim actually agree with what the Word of God says?  To do that, you must have a working understanding of it yourself.  Unfortunately, there are those that will listen to what this “Preacher” says and, for one reason or another, actually take him at his word because he uses (or misuses) Scripture to back up his argument.

For example.  About 35 years ago I was travelling to Charlotte, listening to a radio talk show.  The guest that day was a noted “Doctor of Divinity” who was being interviewed about his new book that was written to point out the many errors that are found in the Bible.  When asked by the host for an example, he responded by saying, “I’ll give you an obvious one.  Matthew says that after the Wise Men came and found Jesus, Joseph and Mary fled with Jesus to Egypt” (Matthew 2:14-15).  Luke says that 40 days after the birth, Mary and Joseph showed up at the temple to present Him to the Lord (Luke 2:22-23).  Then he asked the question, “How could Jesus have been in Egypt and at the temple in Jerusalem at the same time?”  And the host dumbfoundedly responded with, something like, “Man, I had never seen that.”

I almost exploded, wanting to get to a phone so I could call in (this was before cell phones) and respond to this with Jesus words to the Sadducees, “Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures” (Matthew 22:29) because this was an easy to answer.  Jesus was not a newborn when the Wise Men (Magi) showed up.  He is identified in Matthew 2:11 as a young child, with Mary and Joseph residing in a house.  Based on the time it would have taken for travelers from the east to arrive at Jerusalem after seeing the star, it might have been more than a year after Jesus’ birth before they arrived.  So, Joseph and Mary would have long since presented Jesus at the temple before fleeing to Egypt.

Today, we are living in troublesome times, and much false teaching abounds.  To briefly answer the two points raised by the “preacher” above.  If Jesus is a racist, how is it that in heaven, John the Revelator sees, ‘a great multitude which no man could number of all nations, tribes, people and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb (Jesus)” – Revelation 7:9.  Doesn’t sound very racist to me.  Also, the Bible is clear throughout that Jesus never sinned.  ‘For He (God) made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.’

The lesson here is plain.  “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.’ (II Timothy 2:15).  Join us at Airport Baptist Church each Sunday at 11 AM and Wednesday at 6:30 PM, as we seek to do just that.

For God’s glory and His alone,

Pastor Terry.
